Dr. Ralph Hughes is an inspirational speaker, educator, and author, originally from the Harlem section of Manhattan in New York City. Dr. Hughes is the former owner of a leadership consulting company, which he ran for over ten years. Dr. Hughes is also a retired federal law enforcement officer and the former lead faculty area chair for the University of Phoenix’s College of Criminal Justice and the College of Humanities, respectively, where he taught higher education classes for over 15 years. Through Dr. Hughes’ background and experience as a leadership consultant, educator, and law enforcement officer, he has trained thousands of people and given hundreds of lectures, presentations, seminars, and workshops on leadership, organizational behavior, entrepreneurism, public speaking, critical thinking, diversity, innovation and creativity, strategic leadership, ethics, business management, communication, and criminal justice. Additionally, Dr. Hughes developed masters level courses in organizational behavior at Nexus University, and taught criminal justice classes at Broward College. Dr. Hughes was the lead instructor while working at the United States Courts.

Dr. Hughes holds a doctorate in strategic leadership from Regent University, a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Mercy University, and a bachelor’s degree in management from Nyack College.

Dr. Hughes has received numerous awards in his career, such as the: Chief’s Award for Exemplary Service (Leadership Mentoring Program) – United States Probation Office; Faculty Appreciation Award, Best Faculty– University of Phoenix; Chief’s Award for Exemplary Service – United States Probation Office; Commendation from Aventura Police Department– United States Probation Office; Leadership Award, University of Phoenix– South Florida Campus; Bridge Builder: Always Going Above & Beyond– University of Phoenix ,South Florida Campus; Life Changer Award– University of Phoenix; Best Performer, University of Phoenix– South Florida Campus; Outstanding Presentation Achievement, University of Phoenix – South Florida Campus; Faculty member of the month, November,University of Phoenix– South Florida Campus; and the Academic Excellence & Leadership Award, University of Phoenix – South Florida Campus.

Dr. Hughes authored a leadership book in 2024 and contributed to an article in American Jails Magazine on the importance of rest and renewal Dr. Hughes’ research interests include intrinsic motivation, organizational behavior, emotional intelligence, servant leadership, transformational leadership, and African American studies.
