Professor Mary Allegra is a Venezuelan educator and researcher, having served for 30 years in the EFL/ESL field. She holds an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and a Specialization in Teaching Foreign Languages from University Simon Bolivar. Her expertise areas are English language teaching, pronunciation teaching and educational technology. She was also the head of the Department of English Phonetics and Phonology at the University of Carabobo from 2007 to 2019. She has co-authored 4 English Pronunciation Teaching books. Besides having published 6 research papers, Prof. Allegra is a frequent presenter at different national and international conferences. She has also volunteered in the educational field for more than 20 years. In fact, she was the president of VenTESOL (2015-2019), the largest NGO dedicated to English language teacher development in Venezuela, serving the ELT community through the organization of professional development events. Moreover, she continued her ELT community service as a Steering Committee member of the TESOL CALL-IS. Currently, she volunteers for the Electronic Village Online (EVO), helping organize free technology courses for English language teachers around the world. At Westcliff University, she works as an assistant professor for the TESOL Master’s Program of the School of Education. Additionally, she serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Westcliff International Journal of Applied Research (WIJAR), project manager of the Symposium of Applied Research (SOAR), and CORE Faculty Team Lead.
