Professor Joy Kiat-Floro is the Associate Dean of Nursing Academics, contributing to the establishment of the inaugural nursing program at the Corona campus. She recently relocated back to Southern California after 7.5 years as an educator in Doha, Qatar. Professor Floro is a seasoned educator and was the first Nursing Professional Development (NPD) specialist at Qatar’s sole Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
With over 30 years of experience in critical care, leadership, project management, academia, and clinical instruction in the U.S. and Qatar, she brings extensive knowledge and skills. She was among the initial educators appointed to the Professional Practice team and played a pivotal role in establishing Qatar’s first Women’s and Children’s Hospital. At this institution, she co-led the Hospital-wide Sepsis Program and led the development of clinical instructional design for eLearning. Her recent work in the Middle East included leading educational courses, initiating new educational program initiatives, and co-directing the organizational sepsis nursing program. Additionally, she co-chaired scientific planning committees for national sepsis symposiums and delivered presentations at national and international conferences. Professor Floro is currently a member of the 1st International Advisory Council for the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC), representing the Middle Eastern region. She is a contributing author for the 2022 4th edition of the Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards and actively participates in committees for the ANPD, ANCC, and Daisy Foundation.
She previously taught pediatric nursing at several pre-licensure nursing programs in Southern California. Her clinical experience includes adult, pediatric, and neonatal critical care, pediatric transport team, and pediatric level 1 trauma. She holds a Masters of Business Administration in Healthcare Management and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Phoenix, and she is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Practice.
