Joining student clubs offers a myriad of benefits, making it a compelling choice for any student. Firstly, it provides a unique platform for personal and professional growth, fostering leadership skills, teamwork, and networking opportunities that are invaluable in the future. Moreover, these clubs often revolve around shared passions and interests, creating a sense of belonging and camaraderie within the campus community. They offer a break from the academic routine, allowing students to relax, unwind, and indulge in hobbies, all while contributing to personal well-being. Additionally, participation in clubs enhances one’s résumé, demonstrating a commitment to extracurricular activities that can impress future employers or graduate schools. Ultimately, student clubs not only enrich the college experience but also empower students to become well-rounded individuals prepared for the challenges of the real world.

Westcliff Trail Warriors club
Another club that prioritizes physical and mental well-being is the Trail Warriors club, a running club that explores the many scenic trails among Southern California’s mountains and beaches. Running has been proven to decrease stress, increase confidence, and improve countless aspects of physical health. Welcome to runners of all skill levels and experience, it’s an excellent club to join to ensure a balance between studies and personal health. Zhangchi Wang, a Westcliff peer mentor and one of the Trail Warrior club leaders, talked about some of the many exciting events that are coming up saying, “We run together on the last Sunday of each month. Moreover, in September, we will collaborate with the Yoga Club to host a beach workout and Yoga session. In October, our running club will participate as a team in the 5k race at the Long Beach Marathon.” Being part of a running club can improve physical health and share camaraderie and motivation with like-minded individuals in a supportive social environment.
Ocean Awareness and Surfing Club
The Active Minds club
The Active Minds club embodies the Westcliff spirit of providing support and working for the greater good. Each semester, club members are provided with the autonomy to choose a mental health advocacy project that’s meaningful to them. Projects include spreading mental health resources, fundraising, participating in an Active Minds-themed mental health week, and much more. Club leader Tallie Gigi spoke on the importance of the club’s mission, saying, “During a time when one’s mental health may falter, it’s important to know you have support. At Westcliff, there are so many resources to support students, and we want to do our part in sharing the resources pertaining to mental health and wellness.” The club has four meetings per semester: the first two tackle the planning of the semesterly advocacy project, and the second two meetings put the project into action in our community. Become a participant and share in this community of support.
Do you see a need for a club that doesn’t exist yet? Westcliff University students are encouraged to create their own. Check out these guidelines on starting a club at the University.
